Family Planner Hacks | Organisation Tips For Busy Families
The new year is almost here and if you’re looking to find new ways to organise your family’s busy lives, you can’t look past getting your hands on a family planner.
Planners are a great way to keep track of important dates, time managing and staying organised from day to day. As any parent in a busy family would know, it can be a nightmare to stay on top of playdates, sports lessons, music lessons, grocery shopping, doctors’ appointments and all the rest, while still finding a little time for mum and dad to relax.
Thankfully it doesn’t have to be an overbearing pile of guesswork, with a daily, weekly or monthly family planner for 2022 you can provide your family’s life with some much-needed organisation.
Here are our top tips for using family planners to stay organised:
Use your 2022 planner every day
To get the best out of your planner it’s important to use yours every day. Your family planner can only do its thing, if you do yours by checking it every morning, adding important notes as you go and updating it when new things pop up.
Whether you’re using a weekly wall planner, a family planner diary or a family planner calendar, you must keep it somewhere you can always see or have access to it, to use it daily.
Start with the big stuff
When you get your 2022 family planner and you sit down to organise your family’s busy life, always start large and narrow it down. Most of our planners have a great feature where there’s a yearly, monthly, weekly and daily section. You can choose to use one as your go-to, but it’s always best to fill it all out.
It doesn’t matter if you’re repeating information, you want to make sure you have all bases covered by having all events, important dates and appointments detailed.
Record it all
As much as parents are usually the most skilled multitaskers, keeping important information just in your head is not as reliable as getting it down on paper. Trying to add remembering due dates, appointments, play dates and holidays to your long list of things to keep track of is a recipe for disaster!
When things come up, get it down onto the planner, this way you can always refer back to it without having to rely on your memorising skills only.
Use time blocking
Time blocking is a great productivity tool for work and school, but it can also be a great way to keep a busy family organised. A lot of our 2022 weekly and daily planners have dividing lines with the hours of the day on them to help with time blocking.
Here’s an example: If you need to pick up your daughter’s schoolbooks, get a present for your son’s best friend and visit the grocer for a fruit and vegetable restock. All of these can be done at the shopping centre, so it makes perfect sense to block them together.
Keep it all in one place
Using the one planner for all your dates, events and to-do items is going to be a lifesaver. No more stray post its or notes left around the house. Be as consistent as you possibly can, give yourself a goal of keeping your family’s life organised by making your planner your go-to for all events, appointments, reminders, notes and to-dos.
Find a planner that works for you
Choose one that is going to work for your family, you might need to be the gatekeeper so a family planner diary might be your choice. Or if you want it on display for everyone to see, a wall calendar will do best.
